Well, have we got a deal for you! An LACPS meeting with plants for sale! What types, you say? Well, depends on what people bring for sale and trade!
And where will this happen? At a new meeting location! Not that we don’t love meeting at Leslie’s house, we do! But we figured we’d give her a break this go round, and try out a new potential regular meeting spot. We’ll be meeting at the church located at 4501 Deseret Dr., Woodland Hills 91364, There is ample parking in the parking lot which is accessed off of Deseret. You can park on Mulholland, but then you’d just have to walk around anyway to get to the meeting spot which is off the parking lot.
Check out the nifty graphic below to see how to enter the parking lot.
Saturday February 17, 2024.
The start time will be 11:11AM as per usual. Program/presentation TBA, so keep checking back! And afterwards whoever wishes can join us as we run off to some local eatery for some nosh. Entry fee, as always, is $4
Our presentation this time will be our very own John Green educating us on how to sow, sprout and raise Sarracenia seed into maturity! You don’t want to miss this one!
At this meeting there will be plants for sale and trade! Maybe some on display!
]]>Well, lift yer head up high with dignity and stick-to-itivness and join us at the annual LACPS/SDCPS/SCCPE Holiday Potluck and ya show us all, ya show us all, you’ll be there! And You’ll never give up, never give up, never give up…those plants!
Saturday, December 9th, 2023 at 13:00. Starting at 1PM and ending at ??? (though 6PM is when we get kicked out of the meeting room. Still nothing stops us from heading over to Smog City for some brewskis and continuing the party!)
6201 E Willow St, Long Beach, CA 90815
Here is where the meeting room is located on the property:
This is a PotLuck. Which means you should bring something to nosh, and enough for a few people. What should you bring, something you like! Chances are if you like it, others will, too. At least one main dish will be supplied by SCCPE, hopefully LACPS can do the same (hoping Nathan and Amy will prepare their usual delectable Turkey and Trimmings!), feel free to bring your own main dish, or side dish, or dessert.
Don’t forget we’ll be doing a gift exchange game! $20-40 value. Bring as many gifts as you want to participate with. Plant-related. No gag gifts or difficult wrapping. Participants will need to be able to unwrap quickly.
There WILL be plants for sale, and may be sales opportunities, either at a club table as a club fund raiser or individually. I’ll let you know. Though expect that you will need to have plants labeled with your name and price in addition to Plant ID. Certainly if you’re looking to buy, you will be able to find some.
We need help with setup, so arrive early if you can, and breakdown, so stay late if you can. Also, if you have any pictures from past events that you’d like to share, let me know, and maybe someone would like to volunteer to throw together a short slide show?
]]>Our next meeting will be held at our semi-regular meeting location in Pasadena. If you’ve been there before, you know where that is. If you haven’t, write DJ to RSVP. The address is a personal residence and not for general distribution.
Since no one volunteered to make a presentation, I guess it will be me sharing even more exciting photos from the ICPS conference in Japan. This time around I’ll have photos taken at the Tegarayama Conservatory Botanical Garden possibly also photos taken at Hyogo Prefectural Flower Center depending on how many I have from each and as time allows.
As usual, we’ll be gathering at 11:11 AM, there will also be unusual plants for sale and trade, an unusual selection of people to talk to, and refreshments supplied, or feel free to bring some to share. Entry fee is $4.
Saturday October 21, 2023.
The gathering will begin at 11 AM and extend to around 2 PM.
This meeting has an entrance fee of $4, and you may want to bring something to sit on if you can!
We will be meeting at an outdoor location in Pasadena, California, with ability to go indoors if weather is inclement.

]]>Unless someone else volunteers something different…our presentation will be DJ droning on and on about the recent ICPS conference in Japan.
Thrill to tales of interminable presentations! Be shocked to hear about bathroom adventures gone wrong! Hear about the harrowing experience of Habushu! Be on the edge of your seat wondering if Arthur Yin returned safely from the death defying hike to see Pinguicula macroceras! Feel your blood curdle imagining the lascivious licking of the leeches of Laredo!
Come join the usual gang of idiots, doing what you usually expect: Unusual conversations and sale and trading of unusual plants!
Be there, or be a polyhedron!

Instead of our normal independent meeting, we will be rolling our LACPS meeting into the annual 2023 SCCPE Show & Sale
We’ll be having a short meeting at our LACPS Sales booth on Saturday at noon. By that I mean…stop by the booth, say “hi” and hear about the amazing adventures hunting down the Japan endemic Pinguicula ramosa and the elusive Japanese form of Pinguicula macroceras! Then spend the rest of the time wandering the event and ogling the cool plants and displays and maybe pick up a new addition for your collection!
There is a $5 fee to enter the gardens.
Father’s Day Weekend
Saturday, June 17 to Sunday, June 18, 2023, from 10:30a.m. to 4p.m.
Sherman Library & Gardens, 2647 East Coast Hwy., Corona Del Mar, CA 92625
The show is in the only building used for such purposes, right next to the cafe/restaurant. The sales area is in front of the gift shop aka the Tea Garden as well as the Succulent Garden. Presentations and activities will be located in front of the bog garden.
LACPS will have a sales table at the event. Do you have some excess plants you want to unload? Consider donating them to the LACPS for us to sell at our table! (Yes, I am a bit short on prepared sales inventory! So we can use some extra!) We could even sell some plants for you, BUT, only if you supply me with an inventory of the plants you bring, the prices you are asking, and be aware SCCPE will be taking 20% off the top to cover sales tax and Sherman Gardens costs. Direct Message or Email me for more detail.
Would you like to help out and socialize with the great unwashed masses who know nothing about Carnivorous Plants? Then this is the meeting for you! We’d love to see some LACPS involvement with this fun and public informative event!
]]>This is an important meeting to attend as it will be the signup meeting for the Huntington Meeting. Basically, if you attend this meeting and sign up, you will be guaranteed a spot for our June Huntington meeting (exact date TBD).

]]>As usual, I encourage everyone to bring plants to show off, or sell, and if someone has a presentation they want to make, let’s set it up. If not, I’ll bring my laptop and I’ll have a presentation on the Cephalotus of Coal Mine Beach, and the carnivorous plants of King’s Park, Perth. It may be a little difficult if we’re all crowding to look at the small screen on my laptop, so maybe we can do it as a zoom type meeting assuming someone has a way to do something like that. That way everyone can see the photos on their tiny little phone screens as I go through them. Or, I suppose you can bring your own laptops! Hope to see a lot of friendly faces and cool plants! Possibly we can meet at the park first for Show and Sell, and then repair to a local eatery for some nosh and the presentation. It used to be tradition to get some good eats after an LACPS meeting, we should resurrect that tradition.
Saturday February 18, 2023.
The gathering will begin at 11 AM and extend to around 2PM.
Dunsmore Park, 4700 Dunsmore Avenue, La Crescenta, CA 91214
Look for us in the northwestern part of the park, about where marked in the map above. There are multiple picknick tables in the area that cannot be reserved; to find the exact meeting area, look for where the carnivorous plants and the plant people are clustered.
Rare and unusual plants for sale, and rare and unusual people to chat with!
Well-behaved pets are allowed, ill-tempered plants to show off or sell are encouraged.
Masks Encouraged.
Meeting Fee of $4 to cover costs of light snacks like chips and cookies, water will be provided, if you want soda or such, feel free to bring some along with cups and ice.

Holiday gift wishes have come early this year… if your gift wish was to get some cool Nepenthes seed! I just got in the mail a cornucopia of Nepenthes seed from Manny Herrera! The seed parents are N. globosa, N. ampullaria, N. rafflesiana, the pollen donors are unknown as these are open pollinated seeds. And here’s an added twist, i can’t say for sure what the mother of any particular seed is, because it was not tracked! In other words, they will result in a bunch of beautiful mutts, and provide anyone who germinates them with surprise after surprise! We all know the most exciting part of growing carnivorous plants is growing them from seed! And this year, IF you attend the annual LACPS potluck meeting, you will receive at least one, and probably many, packets of free* Nepenthes seed!
How can you pass up such an opportunity? Answer, you can’t! So be at the meeting, December 10th High Noon at 6201 E Willow St, Long Beach, CA 90815, and claim your gift!
*Donations to defray shipping and packaging costs will not be refused if offered.
There is no need to RSVP for this meeting. Should you have any burning questions about the festivities, you may direct them to the other members via the LACPS Mailing List.
This meeting will have no presentation. As usual, all are encouraged to bring plants to share, sell, trade, or simply to present.
